Gut Molasses were formed in Moscow by Lina Molasses in autumn of 2008 and originally consisted of three members. With this lineup they recorded their first demo single.
Later Gut Molasses became a female-only band. In summer of 2009 the band released their EP called Gut Molasses for the Rot Cakes. The name is a warning for those who expect wussy girl’s feelings from the band. In their songs there is no place for weakness and childish naivety.
The EP is an aggressive and sexy mix of punk, garage and alternative rock, flavored with bitter, morbid lyrics. Later the band successfully performed for a year alongside with various grunge and punk bands, thus attracting attention to them being a Russian band which risked to sound like Hole and Distillers. Soon this turned into a sort of label for the band, and many regarded them as a poor mimicry of their western colleagues.
At first Lina tried to change the band line up, but in the end, after a long-lasting search, she decided to record an alternative pop rock solo album "Creme Brulee" (2010).
The album Crème Brulee consists of a vocal which is slightly gruffish, like the smoke of nicotine-free cigarettes, and which occasionally switches to a hissing channel with high-frequency noises which sound like the rasp of sandpaper. The metaphorical lyrics are obsessed with demons and raped by bitterness and pain. The transparent melody occasionally takes turns with aggression, aggravation and despair.
The last EP named "Bruise Garden, Tuberose Charnal" was recorded in summer of 2013 with male line up. The sound is pretty different from the other records. More raw, not cleaned, in the spirit of the female fronted rock bands of the 90s. The lyrics line is also different from "Creme Brulee". It's more romantic, painful and sarcastic. It's the sweet expectation of beautiful death in a tuberose charnel with a little hope of release and healing from destructive love.
